Poem: The Liner MV Reina del Paicifico during Sea Trials
As featured in my first collection, Rapids (2021).
The story of the Titanic and her ultimate demise is universally known.
This poem focuses on the MV Reina del Pacifico, one of the lesser-known vessels to have emerged from the shipyards of H&W in Belfast.
She proved to be as ill-starred as her White Star Line predecessor when four outer crankcase motors exploded in her engine room during sea trials, killing 28 of her crew and injuring sixty others.
I wrote this one with the 70th anniversary of the tragedy, September 11th 1947, in mind. Hope you enjoy:
